NEW BOARD CHAIRMAN, BOARD MEMBERS
PHILADELPHIA,
PA, Sept. 26, 2007 – The Board of Directors of Arthur Ashe Youth
Tennis and Education (AAYTE), one of the nation's leading public
youth tennis programs, has elected Jerry L. Johnson, chairman of
Radnor Trust Company, as its new Chairman, succeeding noted Philadelphia
attorney Robert A. Swift. The Board at its September annual meeting
also elected seven new directors and added one to its Advisory Board.
Johnson
chairs the Radnor (PA)-based bank, which provides a full range of
banking, wealth management, trust and estate, philanthropy and insurance
services. Previously, he was president of eMoney Advisor, executive
vice president of Safeguard Scientifics and vice president for US
West in Denver, CO.
“Arthur
Ashe Youth Tennis and Education has a long-lasting, positive effect
on more than 10,500 boys and girls from the Philadelphia area who
participate in our tutoring and tennis instruction programs throughout
the year,” Johnson said. “Our Board of Directors is committed to
providing the finest facilities, the best instructors and a promise
of hope for every child who participates in our program. With continued
funding support from corporate, private and foundation donors, Arthur
Ashe Youth Tennis and Education will continue to perpetuate the
legacy of the great Arthur Ashe in Philadelphia.”
Newly
elected board members are: Christopher A. Lewis, partner at Blank
Rome L.L.P., Philadelphia; Doug Fonte, president of Prince Americas,
a leader in game-improvement technologies and engineering-based,
high-performance sports equipment, Bordentown, NJ; Thomas Lomax,
chief financial officer, Lomax Companies, Chalfont, PA; Francine
Boone, Esq., assistant general counsel for Drexel University, Philadelphia;
Edmond J. Walters, founder and chief executive officer, eMoney Advisor,
Inc., an online wealth management system, Conshohocken, PA; Joseph
Fetterman, senior vice president and co-managing principal, Staubach,
a commercial real estate company, Bala Cynwyd, PA; and Tamra Adams
of Berwyn, PA.
Elected
to the AAYTE Advisory Board was Robert A. Swift, an attorney at
Kohn, Swift & Graf, P.C., Philadelphia.
Arthur
Ashe Youth Tennis and Education ( www.ashetennis.org
) is a national model for imaginative, public
youth tennis and educational enrichment programs. Providing new
opportunities to an at-risk and diverse population, AAYTE delivers
first-class tennis instruction, fitness, health and nutrition training,
equipment, tutoring, computer science, library services, along with
its nationally acclaimed life skills curriculum to young people
ages 4 to 21, mostly coming from underserved, low-income communities.
The new $12.5 million AAYTE Center at Ridge Ave. and School House
Lane, is dedicated exclusively to serve children, the only facility
of its type in the country. The non-profit organization is supported
through contributions and grants from corporations, businesses,
foundations and the general public.
