Structure
Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis
and Education provides year-round instruction and tennis programs
to over 10,500 children in the Philadelphia area. A non-profit organization
founded in 1952, Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education (AAYTE)
is dedicated toward providing educational, recreational and social
opportunities through tennis, with special emphasis on improving
the lives of youngsters who have few positive resources.
AAYTE is a non-profit
corporation that provides year-round tennis to over 10,500 area
children. It is the umbrella organization for:
- The Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center
- National Junior Tennis League Summer Program
- AfterSchool Program (Tennis 'N' Tutoring)
- The AAYTE Community Program (Outreach)
The Arthur Ashe
Youth Tennis and Education Center
- Only indoor training center in the country just for children.
- A diverse group of 1,200 kids each year, 84% from the city.
- Intermediate, advanced and top-ranked junior players.
- Incentives and role models through travel team opportunities.
- Participation by many community groups from underserved areas.
National Junior Tennis League
- 7-week summer grassroots program founded in 1969.
- Over 5,000 children on over 200 courts
- 68 locations throughout Philadelphia, Camden and Norristown
- Team match play, cluster and city-wide competition.
- First Serve Life Skills Curriculum
- Jobs and training for junior instructors from the neighborhoods.
- Free racquets, balls and t-shirts.
AfterSchool Tennis
'N' Tutoring Program
- Instruction fall, winter & spring.
- Over 2,000 inner-city children at 50 elementary and middle schools
and recreation centers around Philadelphia.
- Constructive & supervised activity for at-risk children.
Community
- Instruction throughout the school year.
- Over 400 children from local schools and community groups.
How do we do it?
- Over 300 volunteers including business and civic leaders, parents, teachers, mentors.
- Caring and generous individuals, corporations and foundations.
- Partnerships with City of Philadelphia, Department of Recreation, Fairmount Park, School District of Philadelphia, Police Athletic League, Manayunk Development Corporation
- USTA/Middle States, and many community groups.
- Support from regional and national celebrities like Andre Agassi,
