idol of almost every one of the more than 10,500 youngsters participating
throughout the year in Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education (AAYTE)
athletic and academic programs, will be interviewed by two AAYTE
kids, Sara Rubin, 15, of Rydal, and Christopher McClellan, 8, of
Germantown, prior to the start of WTT competition between the Freedoms
and the Wranglers.
Sara
and Christopher won a Kidscaster Contest earlier this summer held
as part of an instructional clinic hosted by Luke Jensen, former
ATP Pro, Davis Cup Team member and currently Women's Tennis Coach
at Syracuse University, at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education
Center, 4842 Ridge Ave., in the East Falls section of Philadelphia.
Jensen
and Comcast SportsNet sportscaster Derrick Gunn selected Sara and
Christopher from a highly competitive group of aspiring young sports
announcers.
“Our
kids will ask Venus questions from their perspectives as young,
budding tennis competitors talking to a person they admire and respect,”
said Tina Tharp , acting AAYTE Executive Director. “We don't know
what to expect, but we are sure Venus will make them feel like champions
in their own right.”
