AfterSchool Tennis 'N' Tutoring Program(Fall/Spring)

Program Information:

The AAYTE AfterSchool Tennis 'N' Tutoring Program is a key component in our partnership with the School District of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Department of Recreation during the school year, combining homework help with tennis lessons during the fall and spring. The goal is to encourage children to succeed both on the court and in life.

The program is staffed by a certified teacher and a certified tennis instructor. The youngsters split time between the classroom, getting homework help from the teacher as needed, and the tennis court - learning the game, performing drills and learning the benefits of physical fitness. In inclement weather, "Short Court Tennis" is taught indoors using Nerf balls and small nets.  Thanks to the generosity of Comcast Spectacor, this year we will be distributing FREE tennis racquets to all the children in the program!

Dates and Times

The AfterSchool Tennis 'N' Tutoring Program takes place in the fall and spring at elementary and middle schools, and recreation and community centers throughout the city. Times vary from location to location, but generally start at 3:00 PM and run for two hours, twice a week, for seven-week sessions in both fall and spring. Fall Session begins late September 2006; Spring Session begins mid-April 2007.

Educational Component

To emphasize the importance of academics, the children must prove their grades are satisfactory to earn the privilege to play tennis. At the start of the program, the children are required to bring their most recent report card. We work with the child's parents and teachers to devise a homework plan for each child. Schoolwork and grades must meet certain pre-determined standards, otherwise, the child will continue with the teacher until grades improve.

Levels of Instruction

The AfterSchool Tennis 'N' Tutoring Program is for beginner to low intermediate players in elementary and middle school.

Fees

ALL children in the AAYTE AfterSchool Tennis 'N' Tutoring Program participate free of charge.
