Enrichment Programs
The following enrichment programs supplement our high quality tennis instruction:
- The Goodstein Junior Leadership Program (GJL) is an
invitational program for select NJTL players, between the ages
of 14–18, who exhibit leadership qualities. Participants learn
and develop leadership skills through interaction with caring
and knowledgeable adults, field trips, lectures, community service
projects, mentoring programs and summer employment opportunities
with the National Junior Tennis League.
- The Arthur Ashe Reading is Fundamental® Room
holds over 1,000 titles, carefully selected to entice children
into becoming life-long readers. Young people are encouraged to
borrow books and to use the reading room as a quiet place to do
their homework. At the end of each tennis session, certificates
of achievement are awarded to those youngsters who have met reading
goals. Progress is recorded on charts kept in the reading room.
The Reading Room is also where the Goodstein Junior Leaders mentor
younger program participants.
- The Love 2 Serve Program(L2S)
is a partnership with 5 interconnected North and Southwest
Philadelphia neighborhoods that provides, at no charge, year round
Life Skills, Tennis Instruction and Homework Help as well as a
host of other enrichment activities for both youth and families.
- Through Read Like the Pros
the staff at AAYTE share their favorite books with our young
readers.
- Through The Munchkin Program, children ages four to
eight spend 30 minutes being read to by the Goodstein Junior Leaders
after each tennis class.
- Each year AAYTE awards Scholarships to help applicants reach goals for continuing their education, whether in college, secondary schools or other related pursuits.
