South Africa/Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Connection Ashe Host of South African Youth Team December 4-5
On December 4 and 5, 2009, Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education will host 40 boys and girls from the South African Primary Schools Under 13 National Tennis Team, as part of the South African team’s 10-day visit to the United States.
The "South Africa / Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Connection" is designed to highlight Arthur Ashe's passion and involvement in the civil rights movement, particularly in South Africa's 1980 anti-apartheid movement, as well as bring together two teams in an educational, cross-cultural and competitive format.
The event will show first hand the impact that Arthur Ashe himself and the Philadelphia organization with bears his name have had throughout the years on two young Philadelphians who have taken on positions of leadership: Lance Lee, Ashe's Director of Tennis, and Louis Bolling, head coach and delegation leader of the South Africa Primary Schools team and resident of Johannesburg, South Africa.
